A Beginner's Day Trading Notes | The Lowest-Cost Path to Learning Price Action

Contents
  1. The order to learn in
  2. 1. Tefi: Price Action Basics (3 hours)
  3. 2. Cris & Steven, 罗晟 (12.5 hours)
  4. 3. Tefi: Advanced Price Action (1.5 hours)
  5. 4. Al Brooks and Louie, side by side

After finishing Tefi’s “Price Action Basics” series and Ross’s Warrior Basic & Pro courses, I finally went from “totally lost, no idea where to start” to seeing some clear structure. To help newcomers avoid the detours I took, I combined my own notes with other creators’ study notes into the cheapest, lowest-cost self-study path I could find. It goes step by step and works for complete beginners.

A note for English readers: steps 1 to 3 and Louie’s channel are in Mandarin Chinese. The Brooks Trading Course is in English.

The order to learn in

1. Tefi: Price Action Basics (3 hours)

The “Price Action Basics” series (价格行为基础系列) on Tefi Reading Charts (太妃的市场朗读) works well as your first structured course. It gets you the simplest price action logic quickly.

2. Cris & Steven, 罗晟 (12.5 hours)

“Professional price action analysis and teaching videos” (专业价格行为分析和教学视频), to strengthen the basics.

3. Tefi: Advanced Price Action (1.5 hours)

Back to Tefi’s channel for “Advanced Price Action: the required course before the summit” (价格行为进阶:登峰造极前的必修课).

4. Al Brooks and Louie, side by side

This is where you start Al Brooks’ full method. There are two sources here, in no particular order; use them to cross-check each other:

Brooks Trading Course

Al Brooks' video course on his own site: 52 modules, 100+ hours, currently $399

Louie PriceAction (方方土)

Louie is the Chinese translator of Al Brooks' video course and breaks down the same method in Mandarin, for free

How to use them: say you watch Al Brooks’ module on some pattern and part of it doesn’t click. Go find Louie’s video on the same topic and see how he explains it.

Al Brooks has both books and videos. I’d suggest watching the videos first, then going back to the books again and again to digest them. A fellow learner I follow, 学委, put it well: Al Brooks’ course is like a buffet. Take whatever you want, as much as you can digest. The price isn’t high, so please support the real thing, and thanks to Al for sharing for so many years.

How to work through Louie’s playlists

Louie’s channel has more than a dozen playlists. This is the order I use: top to bottom is the sequence; playlists on the same level can be watched in any order. The number in parentheses is the video count. I kept the Chinese titles so you can find them on the channel.

The learning order in this post is based on “Trading Chat 14” (交易小酌14, 2024 edition) on Tefi’s YouTube channel.

Special thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge for free. It gave me the chance to learn, and to pass it on.

(First published on Xiaohongshu on 2025-09-02. Updated in October 2026: changed Al Brooks and Louie into a side-by-side study, and added the order for Louie’s playlists and links to each channel.)
