The 90% Rule for the Opening 18-Bar Range Looks More Like 81.2%
Al Brooks says the high or low of the first 18 bars ends up as the high or low of the day about 90% of the time. I tested it on 3,924 trading days of cleaned ES data from 2010 to 2026. The result: 81.2%. It takes until bar 28 (11:50) to reach 90%.

A backtest on 3,878 ES trading days from 2010 to 2026 with a complete overnight session: does today's RTH break the overnight (Globex) high or low? 94.4% of days break at least one side, and both sides break more than twice as often as with the prior day's range.
